Artist Statement
"Idealism. Reality. Humanity. Spirituality."
I am drawn to using bold primary colors in my art, inspired by the stained glass windows and icons of old cathedrals, which tell stories to the masses through beautiful images. However, my stories are about myself and people I know, and may not always be as idealistic as they appear. I see each canvas, panel or piece of paper as a different part of my story, both as a child and as an adult.
Family, Home and Relationships are strong themes in my work. I try to bring to light the responsibility, privilege, struggle and sanctity of relationships. Most of my story is told with paint, but I also include collage and found objects. By layering text, images and paint, I am able to visually "write" the stories of my life.
About the Artist
Misty Oliver-Foster is a Texas artist who works in acrylics, collage and mixed media. Her paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group shows, and she has a growing group of collectors all over the country.
An only child, she spent many hours of her childhood drawing, painting and performing for family and friends in her small hometown. Misty later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas, with an emphasis in art history and art education. She worked for six years as a high school art instructor, and she attributes those years as an important development stage for her as an artist. During those years, she was able to travel in Europe and the US, which compelled her to pursue her dream of being a working artist.
Misty has a studio at her home in Frisco, Texas.
